Montréal QC ☕ Morning Chat
Good morning, Montréal.
This morning, we move between digital health, Québec politics, neighbourhood life and the playoffs, with a few detours through schools, culture and animal services. It’s a mix of concrete, local stories with just enough substance to make you feel like you’ve taken the city’s pulse before your second sip of coffee.
Main Story
Québec’s Digital Health Record rolls out with strict language guidelines
The Digital Health Record begins its initial rollout Friday evening in the Mauricie–Centre‑du‑Québec health region and in the CIUSSS du Nord‑de‑l’Île‑de‑Montréal.
Internal directives were sent to health‑care workers outlining phrases to avoid when speaking to patients about the system. Staff are asked not to use wording that is too direct about potential technical issues, and instead focus on adapting to a new digital platform.
The rollout is part of a major project with an annual operating cost estimated at $100 million. That comes on top of the $402 million already invested in development.
The file brings together two realities at once: a very concrete change in how the network operates, and a significant price tag that reflects the scale of the project.

Montréal centralizes animal services with Proanima and the SPCA
The City of Montréal is launching a single point of access for animal services through a partnership with Proanima and the Montréal SPCA.
The Proanima service centre, located in Villeray, Saint‑Michel and Parc‑Extension, offers stray‑animal sheltering and adoption, sterilization, microchipping, prevention programs, services for vulnerable residents and a mobile unit.
Depending on the situation, pet owners may be directed to Proanima or the SPCA. For Montréalers, it makes access to services a little simpler — never a bad thing when an animal decides your schedule doesn’t matter.

Across Québec
Emergency rooms quiet down during Canadiens playoff games
Some Québec hospitals have seen fewer ER visits during recent Canadiens playoff games.

Future Defence Bank fuels rivalry between Montréal and Toronto
Montréal is one of four cities in the running to host the future Defence, Security and Resilience Bank, alongside Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver.
In this same file, Québec officials accuse Toronto of using fear tactics by invoking the referendum question to weaken Montréal’s bid. The institution could create 3,000 jobs, which explains why tensions are rising.

Canadiens look to bounce back in Game 2 against Buffalo
The Montréal Canadiens face the Buffalo Sabres Friday night in Game 2 of their series, after a 4–2 loss in the opener.
Nick Suzuki has seven points in eight playoff games. Buffalo’s Zach Benson recorded two assists in Game 1.
Cole Caufield in a quieter stretch
Cole Caufield is in a four‑game scoring drought.
The contrast is striking, given he became the first Canadiens player in 36 years to reach 50 goals in a season. The focus is on this short slump rather than any broader concern.
La Victoire moves closer to Walter Cup final
La Victoire de Montréal beat the Minnesota Frost 2–1 in LPHF playoff action.

Bright Spot
Among today’s news, the $20,000 donation to four Saint‑Léonard schools brings a genuinely welcome note. It doesn’t solve everything, of course, but it shows how targeted, concrete support can quickly make a difference for a school community.
