A shooting in Montréal left three people dead, including a police officer, a civilian and the suspect. A second officer was injured and is in stable condition.
The incident triggered a major police operation in Côte‑des‑Neiges. Residents were told to shelter in place while the area was closed off and Highway Décarie was shut down in both directions.
The neighbourhood was locked down in an unusual way during the intervention, a sign that something serious was unfolding. It is still unclear what led authorities to tighten the perimeter so aggressively.

Montréal’s Fête nationale parade will feature QR codes along the route
This year’s June 24 Fête nationale parade in Montréal will include QR codes along the route, allowing spectators to learn more about the seven scenes featured in the Je t’aime Québec parade.
More than 500 people will take part, including professional artists, community groups, citizen organizations and participants of all ages. The parade begins at 2 p.m. at Rachel East and Molson and continues to D’Orléans Avenue near Maisonneuve Park.
Up to 80 neighbourhood celebrations are also planned across the island this year, suggesting a very lively summer ahead.
Anti‑racism group gathers testimonies about interactions with the SPVM
The Red Coalition held a press conference in Montréal to give residents, community leaders, victims and advocates a space to share their experiences with police.
The initiative comes as an investigation continues into allegations of racism and misconduct involving officers from Station 39 in Montréal‑Nord. Sixteen SPVM members are implicated, including two suspended officers who may face criminal charges.
Asking rents in Montréal have doubled since 2019
A Rentals.ca report shows that asking rents in Montréal have doubled since 2019.
The average asking rent for a two‑bedroom apartment now sits at 2,312 dollars, compared with 1,130 dollars in 2019 according to Statistics Canada’s measure. The overall average rent in Montréal is now 1,968 dollars.
Carey Price to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame
Carey Price will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year.
The former Montréal Canadiens goaltender spent his entire career with the team until 2022. He holds the franchise record for wins with 361 and the team record for games played by a goaltender with 712.
He joins the 2026 class alongside Patrice Bergeron, Pekka Rinne, Keith Tkachuk, Brian Burke and Cindy Curley.

Ottawa plans to build up to ten new nuclear reactors by 2050
Ottawa plans to build up to ten new nuclear reactors by 2050 to meet the country’s growing electricity demand. Canada currently has 17 reactors in operation in Ontario and New Brunswick, supplying 13 percent of the nation’s electricity.
The plan calls for two new reactors by 2035 and several more in development by 2040. Costs could exceed 100 billion dollars, with no funding model yet defined. It remains to be seen how a project of this scale will move forward as several countries continue to step away from nuclear energy.
