Total Closure of Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel in the Direction of Montreal: Major Works Announced

Important Closure Announcement: Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel Upgrades and Traffic Disruptions

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced a significant closure of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel, a vital traffic route connecting Montreal to the South Shore. During the weekend of July 21, the tunnel will be closed in the direction of Montreal as part of the traffic transfer to the new roadway of Highway 25. This closure is essential to commence construction on the northbound lane and ensure the safety and quality of the road infrastructure.

Planned Works:

The primary purpose of this closure is to finalize the traffic transfer to the new Highway 25 roadway and facilitate construction on the northbound lane. It is important to note that this modification will not affect the current tunnel configuration, which includes one lane towards the South Shore and two lanes towards Montreal.

Nighttime Closure towards the South Shore:

In addition to the closure in the direction of Montreal, the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel will also be closed towards the South Shore during the nights of July 21 and 22. These nighttime closures will enable necessary inspection works to ensure the safety of road users.

Traffic Disruptions:

Highways 20 and 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel, will be completely closed in the direction of Montreal between exit no. 90 – Westbound Highway 20 and the entrance from Yves-Prévost Boulevard, from Friday 11:30 PM to Monday 5:00 AM. The entrances to this section will be closed 30 minutes prior to the total closure of the highway. However, access to Île Charron will be available at all times through a marked route from Marie-Victorin Boulevard.

Additional Nighttime Closures:

Apart from the aforementioned closures, additional nighttime closures are scheduled. Highway 25 towards the South Shore, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel, will be completely closed between exit no. 4 – Montreal (city center) / J.-Cartier Bridge and the entrance from Île Charron. The closure will take place from 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM on Friday to Saturday night and from 11:00 PM to 9:00 AM on Saturday to Sunday night. Furthermore, Souligny Avenue in the eastbound direction will also be closed between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand Streets according to the following schedule: from 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM on Friday to Saturday night and from 10:30 PM to 9:00 AM on Saturday to Sunday night.
